The Lake and Boathouse

Yes, there is a lake. And a boathouse. And, on the far side, a great deal of mud.

Still and dark under the far trees, with a stretch of reeds and, on the far bank in autumn, a low mist gathering in the hollows after rain. It is out of bounds to swim, which has never entirely stopped anyone.
