The story doesn’t end here
Thank you for coming this far: through the gates, up the long drive under the Great Elm, with your trunk and your hopes and your heart in your mouth. Emily was glad of the company. So are we.
There is so much still ahead. There are midnight feasts to be risked and hidden places to be found. There is a secret society waiting to be founded, and friends you haven’t quite met yet who will turn out to be the truest of your whole life. And high up in a locked tower that nobody is allowed to climb, there is a small light that burns in the dark, and no one at St Elowen’s will tell you why.
The whole of St Elowen’s: The Star of Promise is on its way, and when it arrives, we should very much like to tell you first.
Here is how. Ask a grown-up, a parent, a guardian, whoever keeps the light for you at home, to sign up and leave us their name. When the book is ready, we’ll send word straight to them the very moment it’s out, so you never have to wonder and wait. (This part is for grown-ups only. It’s the rule, and it’s a good one.)
Then all you need do is keep an eye on the door, and one day, when you’re least expecting it, the light will come on.
Lumen servamus. We keep the light.
The story goes on from here, up the drive, through the great door, and into the maze of the house.
