Lucinda

First Form, Elm

Homesick, at first, and badly. Dramatic about most things. And, underneath all of it, the warmest heart in the whole school. The rooks are hers. Her doll is called Arabella.

She loves
Arabella. The rooks. Home, achingly, and then, slowly, here.
She fears
The dark of the first night. Being the only one who minds.

What she is not telling you

By the time she reaches France she is the one who climbs over to comfort a crying French girl, telling her about the other side of homesickness, exactly the way it was once told to her.
